ROPA method

What is In Vitro Fertilization?

Receiving eggs from a partner or ROPA is a method that allows a couple of two women to take part in the treatment, as one of them will provide the eggs and the other will carry out the pregnancy. Thus, one of the women provides the eggs, which will be fertilised in the laboratory with donor sperm, and the embryos will be transferred to the other woman, so she will carry out the pregnancy, thus making one of them the surrogate mother and the other the genetic mother.

In terms of legislation, donations in Spain are anonymous, but in this specific case and in accordance with the reform of the Assisted Reproduction Act 14/2006, motherhood will be shared. Therefore, both will be legally recognized as parents of the baby born.

How is the ROPA method treatment performed?

Before undergoing the ROPA method, a fertility study must be carried out to check that this technique is indicated and that it is possible to perform it.
The study is the same as for women who are going to undergo IVF treatment, but in this case it will be divided into two parts, so the two members of the couple must be coordinated so that the timing is appropriate.

Ovarian stimulation

The woman who will provide her eggs for the treatment will undergo ovarian stimulation to obtain an adequate number of eggs and be able to work with them in the laboratory.

Preparing the uterus

Meanwhile, the woman who will host the embryo or embryos will focus on preparing the uterus to receive the embryos generated in the laboratory.
